MLA Style

MLA stands for Modern Languages Association. This organization produces and updates a style guide for essays and research papers. There are others… In my master’s program, we used APA, but Oakdale’s teachers adopted MLA, which is one of the easier ones.🙂

In short, your typed documents should always follow MLA guidelines:

* indented paragraphs (use the TAB key which should equal 5 full spaces)
* double-spaced
* Times New Roman
* 12 point font
* heading in top left
* 1-inch margins
* titles are not in bold or underlined
* no extra lines between paragraphs

MLA Headings look like this:

Your Name

Teacher’s Name

Title of Class

Day Month Year
